Overview

A controversial Late Miocene hominoid known primarily from a mandible found near Athens and a premolar from Bulgaria. A 2017 study claimed it could be the earliest known hominin based on partially fused premolar roots, but most paleoanthropologists remain skeptical of this interpretation, considering the evidence insufficient for such a major taxonomic claim.
